The other day a flock of bobolinks bubbled along the hedgerow as I walked down to Lewis Creek after school. Northern Orioles, red-winged blackbirds, meadow larks, and of course robins are all serenading us. Outside my bedroom window, the starlings continue to rear their young in the holes of a giant Eastern Cottonwood tree. Chokecherry trees are blooming. Choke berry is about to bloom (it's a native shrub), as is honeysuckle.
Pear and apple trees are blossoming in New Haven. I'm keeping an eye out for pollinating honey bees on them. Speaking of which, the bees are still working the ground ivy. Mustard is coming out now too, a big source of nectar for bees.
Wild strawberries (and cultivated!) are flowering, alerting us to those special spots where we will go to gather tiny bursts of sweetness in June.

Watch out for porcupines and opossums on the road at night -- too many are being hit by cars.
